Ankeny Xtreme Competitive Softball Program

The Ankeny Xtreme Competitive Softball Program is designed for girls who wish to participate at a higher-skilled, more competitive level of play. Any girl who wishes to participate in Competitive Softball must reside within the Ankeny School District.  Competitive teams range from 6U to 13U age divisions based on birth year.  Here are some additional highlights:

  • Registration (link) opens in June
  • Ankeny Xtreme season starts in the fall and ends in the summer
  • Winter Development at “The Diamond” at Prairie Trail Sports Complex in January
  • 2 practices per week and 8-12 weekend tournaments in a fall / spring season
  • Tryouts and Bid Process (link) will determine teams based on skill (starting at 9U)

Participation in the Competitive Team Softball Program requires commitment, both from a monetary and a time standpoint. Competitive teams may play on a local, state, regional, or national level in the fall and the spring.

Recreational Softball Program

The Recreation Softball Program, in cooperation with the Ankeny Parks & Recreation Department, offers girls going into grades 1-8 the opportunity to play softball and learn fundamental skills and basic team concepts in a positive, relaxed, fun and enthusiastic environment.

The “Rec” program is designed for girls of all skill levels who want to play softball for the fun of it. All players are equally valued, regardless of their level of play. The Rec League allows girls to play in Ankeny, and all players are given equal opportunity to participate and are encouraged to play all positions. It also allows girls the opportunity to socialize and make new friends.

The success of the “Rec” Program is dependent upon parental involvement through volunteering to be coaches, assistant coaches, team parents and umpires.

  • Registration opens in March at www.ankeny at https://ankenyiowa.activityreg.com/
  • Practices and games start in late July and go through mid-September
  • All games and practices take place during the week (either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday)
  • End of year tournament on a weekend in mid-September
